kozēkozē presents the Indiana Doula Conference is a groundbreaking, first-of-its-kind, statewide gathering of doulas from all certifying bodies, specialties, and areas of passion, fostering connection, collaboration, and continued learning.

While the need for doulas is clear, ongoing support and education for certified doulas is limited. The Indiana Doula Conference aims to bridge this gap by offering continuing education sessions and opportunities to learn from other birth professionals. It also provides essential networking opportunities, enabling doulas to strengthen peer connections, share insights, and build a unified community committed to improving birth experiences and outcomes across Indiana.

The Real Need for Doulas in Indiana

INDIANA’S BIRTH LANDSCAPE

In 2023, Indiana received a D on the March of Dimes Report Card, which outlines critical indicators of maternal and infant health. The state’s rates of preterm birth, infant mortality, and maternal mortality exceed the national average. Additionally, in 2021, the Indiana Department of Health’s Maternal Mortality Review Committee (MMRC) found that 71% of pregnancy-associated deaths and 77% of pregnancy-related deaths in the state were preventable.

FUTURE OF THE DOULA INDUSTRY

Global market research estimated the doula industry was valued at $500 million in 2019 and is projected to reach $800 million by 2025. In the U.S., the market is expected to grow to $25.7 billion by 2033.

INCREASING DEMAND FOR DOULAS

The demand for doula care is increasing, and in Indiana, the need is critical. The 2023 MMRC Annual Report recommended “increased support for doula intervention in the late postpartum period and additional forms of birth support.” Doulas can help improve maternal and infant health, saving lives and addressing gaps in maternity care.
